The Paint Exchange offers recycled paint created from surplus paint that is brought to our shop for reuse. We inspect all paint we receive to confirm its’ suitability for recycling and treat it to ensure against damage from microbial contamination. We triple strain, reblend and repackage our paint in accordance with environmental standards set forth by companies that offer certification for “green” products. Our product contains at least 99.5% post consumer material.
The Paint Exchange proudly offers recycled latex paint in a broad range of colors, finishes and package sizes. Our reColor Premium Recycled latex paint is made using only premium brand paints in excellent condition. The less expensive brands are blended into our Paint Exchange non-premium recycled paint.
The Paint Exchange offers its products in quarts, gallons, two gallon buckets and five gallon buckets. We mix approximately five gallons of each color, and can do greater quantities with advance notice. We sell our paint for about half of what you would pay for new paint.
Even though our paint comes in a variety of colors, it’s all “green.”
Why our paint is “Green.”
First, our paint is recycled, consisting of at least 99.5% post-consumer material. We take surplus paint and create a high quality, usable product. We therefore play an active role in reducing the amount of paint that makes its way to landfills.
Second, recycled paint has been found to be naturally low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). VOCs, the gases released when paint is exposed to air, are known to reduce indoor air quality. Pigments (the substances used to give paint color) are responsible for most of the VOCs found in paint. Because we do not add pigments to our paint, it is naturally lower in VOCs. Since our paint is made from post-consumer material and undergoes further exposure to the air in our filtering process, a lot of the VOCs are gone by the time our customers take home a gallon.
Third, our recycled paint is currently collected, produced and sold locally, thereby minimizing its’ impact on the environment.
